Mark Sandberg

|
Mark Sandberg was born May 20, 1961 to Donald Robert and Shirley Janelle (Peterson) Sandberg in Oceanside, California. He was baptized in December of 1961 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Pipestone, Minnesota. Mark attended Pipestone High School, and later received his G.E.D. He also attended Hutchinson Vocational College in Hutchinson, Minnesota, and finished on semester at SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota.
Mark gave his heart to the Lord when he was 35 years old. His faith was extremely personal to him, so he did not always share his faith outwardly to others, but rather, by the way he carried himself with gentleness, patience, compassion, and other gifts of the spirit. He quietly drew on the strength from the Lord for the past 21 months, since his diagnosis of a cancerous brain tumor. Mark's name means "Warrior", and he certainly fought the fight of a warrior during the most important battle of his life. On Saturday, July 11, 2009, Mark died at his home at the age of 48 years, one month and 21 days. He ran the race, kept the faith, and won the battle, for he now walks with the Lord.
Mark has lived the past 13 years on a beautiful acreage just outside Lake Benton, which was his sanctuary. He and his parents, and other family members, spent many summers working side-by-side making improvements. Mark truly loved Lake Benton and its citizens. He told his family many times how wonderful and important the people of Lake Benton were to him.
Mark was a member of the Lake Benton Chamber of Commerce. He had worked in construction, but his heart was in his Buffalo Ridge Workshop and Gardens, which he enjoyed doing up until a few months prior to his death. He enjoyed matting and crafting frames, woodworking, leather tooling, basket weaving, metal scrapping, and gardening. Many times, Mark would bring out his leather tooling or basket weaving supplies and teach his nieces and nephews how to create their own leather band or basket. He also enjoyed antiquing, asparagus hunting, and pie baking. In fact, Mark became known as the Pie Guy. Mark was also involved in starting the Lake Benton Farmer's Market.
Mark is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Destiny (Lance) Ripka of Luverne, Minnesota; grandchildren, Justyce and Braydon Ripka of Luverne, Minnesota; parents, Don and Shirley Sandberg of Lake Benton, Minnesota; very special friend, Rosie DeZeeuw of Lake Benton; sisters, Pam (Barry) Nosbusch of Lakefield, Minnesota; Virginia (Conrad) De Kam of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Teresa (aka: Jo) Dimando of Vista, California; six nieces, two nephews, four grandnieces, and one grandnephew; and his faithful canine companion, Buster. Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, and two aunts.
