E-LB dropped by Castlewood

The Castlewood girls volleyball team came to town on Tuesday, October 21 to face Elkton-Lake Benton. The Elks went down in three straight, falling 25-13, 25-12, 25-18.

Rachel Krogman led the Elks with four kills and three blocks, while Calli Pritchard paced the Elks with three set assists. Jenny Rochel came up with three aces on the evening.

Rochel also led the team in digs with 18, followed by Lindsey Thielen with seven and Krogman with six.

Brittany Little led Castlewood with nine kills, eight aces, and eight blocks.

E-LB lost the JV match 27-25, 27-29, 15-11. The C-team Elks won 25-19, 25-20.

Junior varsity, junior high complete successful seasons

The Elkton-Lake Benton junior high and junior varsity football seasons are now over. Below is the results of the final game for each team.

Elks lose finale to Iroquois/DeSmet

The Elkton-Lake Benton Elks dropped their regular season fi­nale to Iroquois/DeSmet Friday evening in Lake Benton.

The Chiefs opened the scoring with nine minutes remaining in the first half when Brady Anderson ran it in from six yards out. Anderson also ran for the two-point conver­sion making the score 8-0.

Less than three minutes later Iroquois/DeSmet was knocking on the door again, and once again it was Anderson with the honors, running the score to 14-0.

The Elks were the first to score in the second half when Brett Del­aney grabbed a Chiefs pass and ran in a touchdown from 30 yards out. Delaney also ran in the two-point conversion to pull Elkton-Lake Benton to within six at 14-8 with 8:15 remaining in the half.

The Elks wouldn’t score again, though, while the Chiefs would again hit paydirt twice in the first half, with Seth Wallen scoring on an eight-yard run and Geoffery Langland rushing in from 15 yards out with two minutes left in the half. This gave Iroquois/DeSmet a 28-8 halftime lead.

The Chiefs would score once again as time ran out in the third quarter, when Anderson ran in his third TD of the evening for a 36-8 advantage.

Buck Barber rushed 10 times for 54 yards for the Elks, with Aus­tin Farnham adding another 29 on seven carries.

Jon Barthel led the team in re­ceiving with 1 catch for 15 yards.

Barber and Brodee Landmark led Elkton-Lake Benton defensive­ly with 14 tackles, including one sack from Barber.

With the win, the Chiefs fin­ished at 7-1, good for second place in the conference. The Elks ended the season at 1-7.

E-LB defeats Iroquois

The Elkton-Lake Benton Elks volleyball team ended their regu­lar season on a high note with a 3-2 victory over Iroquois. The two teams battled back and forth, with four of the five games decided by less than five points. When the dust settled, however, E-LB fin­ished with a 24-26, 25-12, 25-20, 23-25, 16-14.

The Elks opened post-season play last night in the district tour­nament.

Team leaders in the match were Rachel Krogman with nine kills, and Sarah Busselman and Lindsey Thielen each finished with seven kills. Krogman also had four aces. Jenny Rochel led the team with nine aces on the evening, as well as finishing the match with seven digs.

Thielen led the team in digs with nine. Calli Pritchard had 13 set assists, Dani Busselman add­ing eight.

Shelby Meyer led Iroquois with 11 kills.

O-R-R trips Elks, 3-2

The E-LB volleyball team hit the road Friday evening to face Oldham-Ramona-Rutland. The Elks quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead, but saw O-R-R come storm back to take the final three games in a 18-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23, 15-9 decision.

Lindsey Thielen had 13 kills on the evening, with Rachel Krog­man adding nine. Liz Otkin led the team with 12 set assists, followed by Calli Pritchard with seven.

Thielen and Krogman each had 10 digs in the match, tops on the team.

The Raiders also won the B-squad match, 25-20, 25-18.
